What people are saying

  • “I’ve been sending postcards back and forth with some long distance friends and I genuinely forgot how fun it is to get something in the mail that isn’t a bill lol”
    Steven G.
  • “I sent the first one as a joke and now everyone asks when the next one is coming”
    Patrick E.
  • “My parents love my postcards and I never would have done it without Familyletter, I don’t think I have ever even bought a stamp before. Love it and will keep using them!”
    Tricia M.
  • “I visited my grandparents last week and it was awesome to see their fridge covered with my postcards! They seem to really appreciate them”
    Eric S.
  • “I sent one to my best friend after she moved across the country and now we’re obsessed. We talk all the time but getting real pics is totally different.”
    Georgia K.
  • “This is such a good “thinking of you” gift, it feels way more intentional than sending a text”
    Alex U.
  • “My boyfriend and I are long distance and this hits completely different than texting pictures. We already FaceTime constantly so having an actual picture of him on my desk feels less digital.”
    Claire O.
  • “I send a few postcards a month to my buddies from college, it’s kind of like a monthly time capsule”
    Elijah P.

What to write in a birthday card for grandson

Write to the age he is. A seven-year-old wants his name and a joke. An 18-year-old wants to hear you're proud of him.

Funny works when he's already in on the joke.

  • “Grandpa has watched the trampoline video eleven times.”
  • “Happy birthday to our favorite grandson. Don't tell your cousins.”
  • “You're taller than Grandpa now, and he's still not over it.”
  • “Dinner is on us next time you're home, and you pick the place.”

His first birthday card, written for later

A first birthday card for a grandson is really for the boy he'll grow into. Date it, and his parents can keep it for him.

Fill the front with his first year: first steps, first cake, the day he met you.

His 18th, his 21st, and every one after

At 18 or 21 he may be in a dorm or a first apartment. The card goes wherever he lives now, at any US address.

An adult grandson with kids of his own still gets one from you. Put his children on the front.

Great-grandsons, sisters and cousins

For a great-grandson, ask his parents to text you a few recent photos, and sign it from Great-Grandma or Great-Grandpa.

One order holds up to ten cards, so his sister's birthday card for granddaughter can ride along.

If you mail every grandchild all year, the Postcard Club gives you the member price on each card and saves their addresses.

Anyone else's birthday works too: photo birthday postcards use the same builder.

Grandson birthday card questions

What do you write in a birthday card to a grandson?

One thing he did this year, then both your names. His photos on the front say the rest.

What are some special words for a grandson?

Plain ones, said once: “We're proud of you.” Then name the reason, like the game he won or the job he started.

What are some funny birthday wishes for a grandson?

Tease him about something only the family knows: “Happy 18th. You still owe Grandpa a rematch at checkers.”

What if the card gets lost in the mail?

If a card is lost or damaged, we print and mail it again for free. Email support within 60 days of your order.
