    Steven G.
  • “This is such a good “thinking of you” gift, it feels way more intentional than sending a text”

    Patrick E.

Why your photos make better birthday postcards

A FamilyLetter birthday postcard is a 4x6 glossy photo postcard: up to four of your photos on the front, your birthday message on the back.

A store card carries a stranger's verse. Yours carries their year: the cake, the porch swing, the trampoline jump nobody else saw.

The back opens on a birthday design, confetti with a Happy Birthday sticker and balloons, so it reads as a birthday card from the mailbox.

Who to surprise this year

Anyone with a birthday and a US mailbox. It earns its keep with the people texting doesn't reach.

Not a birthday? You can still send a postcard to Grandma any week of the year.

  • Grandma turning 80, who would rather hold the photos than scroll for them.
  • A grandchild turning seven: their own name on real mail.
  • The friend who moved away, with the photos only the two of you have.
  • Your kid at college: the dog, the kitchen and the people they left behind.
  • Your mom or dad, from you and the grandkids in one card.

What to write on a birthday postcard

A good birthday postcard message is two or three short sentences about something specific, signed with everyone's names.

Skip the verse. The photos on the front are already doing most of the talking. A few lines that work:

  • Point at a photo: “Leo still talks about the porch swing.”
  • Make a plan: “Milkshakes are on me when you're home.”
  • Send news from home: “Biscuit has slept on your sneakers all week.”
  • Ask for something only they have: “Ava wants your lemon cake recipe. So do I.”
  • Keep a running joke going: “Grandpa says that jump was at least ten feet.”

How to send a birthday postcard from your phone

Sending a birthday postcard from your phone takes about a minute, and the person receiving it needs no app and no account.

  1. Add up to four photos of them, or of the two of you, from your camera roll.
  2. Type your message and pick a font. The confetti back and Happy Birthday sticker are already on.
  3. Check the front and back. What you see is what prints.
  4. Pay, then enter their address. We print the card and mail it USPS First-Class.

Birthday postcard questions

What do you write on a birthday postcard?

Two or three short sentences: one specific memory or piece of news, one plan or wish, and everyone's names. The photos on the front carry the rest, so there's no need for a verse.

How long does a birthday postcard take to arrive?

Usually 5 to 10 business days from order to mailbox: we print within one to two business days, then it travels USPS First-Class Mail. For a birthday, allow up to 15 days. We can't guarantee a delivery date.

Do I need a stamp or a trip to the post office?

No. We print the birthday postcard, add the postage and mail it for you. Shipping is free on every order, even a single card.

Where can I buy birthday postcards online?

Stationery shops sell packs of blank birthday postcards you write, stamp and mail yourself. FamilyLetter prints one from your photos and mails it for you, postage included.

How can I personalize a birthday postcard?

Put up to four of your photos of them on the front. In the message, use their name and one specific memory. Then pick a font, a back design and stickers.

Can I mail a birthday postcard straight to the person?

Yes. After you pay, you enter the address the card goes to. It can be any US address, and the person receiving it doesn't need an app or an account.

Can I send birthday postcards to several people in one order?

Yes. One order holds 1 to 10 postcards, and each card can go to a different US address.

Can I see the birthday postcard before it prints?

Yes. You see the finished front and back while you build it, and that is what prints. Nothing is printed until you check out.

What if the card gets lost in the mail?

If a card is lost or damaged, we print and mail it again for free. Email support within 60 days of your order.
