What people are saying

  • “My parents love my postcards and I never would have done it without Familyletter, I don’t think I have ever even bought a stamp before. Love it and will keep using them!”
    Tricia M.
  • “I visited my grandparents last week and it was awesome to see their fridge covered with my postcards! They seem to really appreciate them”
    Eric S.
  • “I sent one to my best friend after she moved across the country and now we’re obsessed. We talk all the time but getting real pics is totally different.”
    Georgia K.
  • “I’ve been sending postcards back and forth with some long distance friends and I genuinely forgot how fun it is to get something in the mail that isn’t a bill lol”
    Steven G.
  • “This is such a good “thinking of you” gift, it feels way more intentional than sending a text”
    Alex U.
  • “My boyfriend and I are long distance and this hits completely different than texting pictures. We already FaceTime constantly so having an actual picture of him on my desk feels less digital.”
    Claire O.
  • “I sent the first one as a joke and now everyone asks when the next one is coming”
    Patrick E.
  • “I send a few postcards a month to my buddies from college, it’s kind of like a monthly time capsule”
    Elijah P.

Who would love a postcard from you

The postcards worth sending go to someone who checks the mailbox every day and rarely finds their own name in it.

  • Grandma and Grandpa: the faces they ask about, on a card they can hold.
  • Mom or Dad: proof the move, the new job or the first apartment is going fine.
  • A friend who moved away: a photo from the old neighborhood for the new kitchen.
  • A kid at college: mail with their name on it, and news from home the group chat never covers.

Send a postcard to Grandma

A postcard to Grandma works with faces she knows, one real thing from this week, and the name of every kid in the photos.

A 4x6 card fits on the fridge door, beside her chair, or in a handbag to show her friends at lunch.

Leave her something to ask about. It gives the next phone call somewhere to start.

Her birthday coming up? Make one of our birthday postcards for Grandma about two weeks ahead.

What to write on a postcard to Grandma

A good postcard message is one specific thing from this week, a name for each photo, one line only you would write, and your name.

Skip the weather. Say what happened and who did it.

A few lines that work. More: what to write on a postcard.

  • Leo jumped in every leaf pile on the street. Every single one.
  • Rosie cracked her first egg, mostly into the bowl.
  • We made your chili. Dad says it's close. It isn't.
  • Your old room is exactly how you left it, minus the cat, who moved in.

Why a postcard beats a text

A printed postcard is a thing you can hand to someone. A photo in a text thread scrolls away by Thursday.

The real choice is rarely card versus text. It's this card versus the one you meant to mail and never did.

What usually stops that card is the stamp and the trip to the post office. Both are on us.

Send postcards without a stamp

To send postcards with FamilyLetter, make a 4x6 photo card in about a minute. We print it, add the postage and mail it USPS First-Class.

One card is fine, with no subscription required. You need no app or account, and the person you're sending to needs nothing.

Want every step, start to mailbox? Here's how to send postcards online with us.

  1. Pick up to four photos from this week. They go on the front, edge to edge.
  2. Write your message in the font you pick, and see the finished front and back before you pay.
  3. Check out, then tell us the address. We add the postage and mail it USPS First-Class.

Thinking of you, miss you and get well cards

Thinking of you: a photo of something you did together, and one line on why it came to mind.

Miss you: a photo from home they haven't seen. The Miss you! sticker says it if words won't.

Get well: something to look at from the couch. The grandkids, the dog, the garden.

How to mail a postcard yourself

To send a postcard yourself, you need a card in the USPS postcard size range, a postcard stamp and a mailbox.

The postcard stamp calculator has today's stamp price.

Here's how to address a postcard.

Or skip the stamp: make one above, and we mail it.

  1. Message on the left half of the back.
  2. Address on the right half, stamp in the top right corner.
  3. Into a blue USPS box, or your own mailbox with the flag up.
