What people are saying

  • “My boyfriend and I are long distance and this hits completely different than texting pictures. We already FaceTime constantly so having an actual picture of him on my desk feels less digital.”
    Claire O.
  • “I sent one to my best friend after she moved across the country and now we’re obsessed. We talk all the time but getting real pics is totally different.”
    Georgia K.
  • “I’ve been sending postcards back and forth with some long distance friends and I genuinely forgot how fun it is to get something in the mail that isn’t a bill lol”
    Steven G.
  • “My parents love my postcards and I never would have done it without Familyletter, I don’t think I have ever even bought a stamp before. Love it and will keep using them!”
    Tricia M.
  • “I visited my grandparents last week and it was awesome to see their fridge covered with my postcards! They seem to really appreciate them”
    Eric S.
  • “This is such a good “thinking of you” gift, it feels way more intentional than sending a text”
    Alex U.
  • “I sent the first one as a joke and now everyone asks when the next one is coming”
    Patrick E.
  • “I send a few postcards a month to my buddies from college, it’s kind of like a monthly time capsule”

Miss you cards for family far away

Send the ordinary things they don't get to see anymore.

  • A kid at college: the dog on their bed, the empty chair at dinner
  • Grandparents across the country: the grandkids, a little taller every card
  • A friend who moved: the coffee shop you both still call yours
  • Someone long distance: one photo for the desk instead of the camera roll

What to write in a miss you card

Name one thing you miss, exactly, then share one small piece of news. "I miss you" cards can be two lines long.

  • The house is too quiet. Biscuit checks your room every night.
  • We drove past your old exit today and almost took it.
  • Grandpa, Theo lost his first tooth. He's saving it to show you.
  • Dinner was fine. Nobody argued about the dishes, which felt wrong.

We miss you cards from the whole family

Put each kid's photo on the front and give each of them a line on the back.

Grandparents in two states? Each card in an order goes to its own US address, with its own note.

For more ways to stay close, see our ideas for long-distance grandparents.

Miss you birthday cards when you can't be there

Missing a birthday stings more than missing a Tuesday. Put your face on the front and your excuse on the back.

For a birthday, please allow up to 15 days, because USPS can run a little slow. See also birthday postcards with your photos.

Miss you card questions

What do you write in a miss you card?

One specific thing you miss and one small piece of news from home. Two short lines and a few photos are enough.

Can I mail a miss you card to a college student?

Yes. Ask them for their exact campus mailing address before you check out.

Can I send one to family in another country?

No. We mail to US addresses only.

How long does a miss you card take to arrive?

Usually 5 to 10 business days: we print within 1 to 2 business days, then it travels USPS First-Class Mail. We can't guarantee a delivery date.
