Kwanzaa holiday cards that start with your photos

Up to four photos fill the front: the kinara on the first night, the Karamu table, everyone squeezed into one shot.

Your greeting and their address share the back. There's one Kwanzaa sticker so far, a Happy Kwanzaa! banner, so your photos carry the rest.

The seven principles, one for each day

Each of Kwanzaa's seven days honors one of the Nguzo Saba, its seven principles.

Ask "Habari gani?" and the answer is that day's principle. It makes an easy first line for a card.

  • Umoja: unity
  • Kujichagulia: self-determination
  • Ujima: collective work and responsibility
  • Ujamaa: cooperative economics
  • Nia: purpose
  • Kuumba: creativity
  • Imani: faith

What to write on Kwanzaa cards

One piece of family news, a principle if one fits, and every name signed.

  • Happy Kwanzaa from all of us. Zoe lit the black candle and gave a whole speech about Umoja.
  • Habari gani? Kuumba! The twins built a kinara out of paper towel tubes. It leans.
  • We saved you a seat at the Karamu, Grandma. Come eat with us next year.

Kwanzaa and Christmas cards in one order

Some families mark both. One order holds up to ten cards, each to its own US address, with its own message if you like.

Need Christmas or Hanukkah designs for the rest of the list? Start from our holiday photo postcards.

Kwanzaa ends on New Year's Day, so a New Year's photo postcard is a fine late card too.

Kwanzaa card questions

How many days is Kwanzaa?

Seven, from the day after Christmas through New Year's Day. Each day honors one of the seven principles, starting with Umoja, which means unity.

What are some holiday symbols for Kwanzaa?

The kinara holds seven candles: one black, three red and three green. The mkeka (a mat), ears of corn and a unity cup sit with it.

Do you give gifts during Kwanzaa?

Yes, mainly to children. The gifts are called zawadi, and Kwanzaa's founder, Maulana Karenga, writes that they should include a book and a heritage symbol.

Are these folded Kwanzaa greeting cards?

No. Each is a 4x6 glossy photo postcard with no fold and no envelope. Photos go on the front; your greeting, the postage and the address go on the back.

How much do Kwanzaa cards cost?

$9.99 for one card or $59.99 for ten, with free shipping on every order. Printing and postage are included.
