Veterans Day cards for the veteran you know

It goes to one person whose address you have: your dad, your grandpa, the neighbor with the flag.

Veterans Day honors everyone who served and is mainly for living veterans. Memorial Day, in May, remembers those who died in service.

What to write on a Veterans Day card

Say thank you, then add one thing only you would know: the branch, the years, a story they told. Some messages to make your own:

  • Happy Veterans Day, Grandpa. Thank you for your service, and for every story you told us about it.
  • Dad, thank you for your 22 years in the Army. We're proud of you every day, not only today.
  • Happy Veterans Day, Mr. Ruiz. Thank you for serving, and for the flag you raise every morning.

Veterans Day card ideas from your own photos

Any photo on your phone works, even a snapshot of an old print.

  • Their service photo beside a photo from this year
  • The grandkids on the porch, holding a flag or a sign they drew
  • Four in a grid: basic training, the wedding, the first grandchild, last summer

Postcards for veterans you don't know

Letter drives such as A Million Thanks collect notes for service members and veterans. They ask for letters people write out themselves, not store-bought cards.

A printed postcard doesn't fit those drives. Ours is for a veteran you know.

Writing to a recruit instead? See letters to basic training. For later in November, the same builder makes Thanksgiving cards.

Veterans Day card questions

What should I write on a veteran's card?

Thank them, then add one specific line: their branch, a story they told, or what their service meant to your family.

When should I order a Veterans Day card?

Allow up to 15 days before November 11, because USPS can run a little slow. Most cards arrive in 5 to 10 business days, and we can't guarantee a delivery date.

Is it a folded card in an envelope?

No. It's a 4x6 photo postcard on thick glossy card stock, with your photos on the front and your note on the back. We add the postage.

Can you send cards to a VA hospital or to veterans I don't know?

We mail each card to the US address you give us, so it suits a veteran you know. We don't run a program for VA facilities; letter drives such as A Million Thanks do.
