What people are saying

  • “My parents love my postcards and I never would have done it without Familyletter, I don’t think I have ever even bought a stamp before. Love it and will keep using them!”

    Elijah P.

Personalized Rosh Hashanah cards on a 4x6 photo postcard

Up to four photos fill the front: the kids, last year's visit, the apples and honey before anyone dipped.

One order holds up to ten cards, each to its own US address. Write one note for everyone, or a different one for each relative.

What to write on Rosh Hashanah greeting cards

Start with the greeting, then add one line of family news. Spellings vary, so shana tova and shanah tovah are both fine.

  • Shanah tovah: a good year
  • L'shanah tovah u'metukah: for a good and sweet year
  • L'shanah tovah tikateivu v'teichateimu: may you be inscribed and sealed for a good year
  • Shanah tovah, Grandpa! Maya dipped the apple in honey, then the honey in more honey.

When is Rosh Hashanah 2027?

Rosh Hashanah 2027 begins at sundown on Friday, October 1, and ends at nightfall on Sunday, October 3.

For a card that lands before the first night, order by September 16 to be safe. Dates are from the Hebcal Jewish calendar.

Missed it? Send Gmar chatimah tovah instead

Gmar chatimah tovah means "a good final sealing." It's said from Rosh Hashanah until Yom Kippur, so a late card still has the right words.

The winter holidays are next: a Hanukkah card with your photos, or holiday postcards for every December holiday.

Cards made for the New Year

Postcard front with one full-size photo: a mom, a dad and two kids squeezed into a close-up selfie
One photo, for Aunt Ruth
Postcard back with a note reading L'shanah tovah u'metukah, Aunt Ruth, a red heart sticker and the address box

Late, and still the right words

Questions about Rosh Hashanah cards

What is the difference between Shana Tovah and L'Shana Tovah?

Both wish someone a good year. Shanah tovah means "a good year," and the L' adds "for," so either is right on a card.

What do you say between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur?

Gmar chatimah tovah, which means "a good final sealing." It suits a card that arrives after the holiday.

When should I mail a Rosh Hashanah card?

Rosh Hashanah 2027 begins at sundown on October 1. Allow up to 15 days, so order by September 16 to be safe. We can't guarantee a delivery date.

Is this a folded greeting card?

No. It's a 4x6 glossy photo postcard with no fold and no envelope. Photos go on the front; your note, the postage and the address go on the back.

How much does a Rosh Hashanah card cost?

One card is $9.99 with free shipping on every order, postage included. Five cards are $7.00 each.
